Sky Bet Championship outfit Nottingham Forest have today bolstered their attacking arsenal with the signing of Apostolos Vellios from Greek side Iraklis Thessaloniki.

The Greek target man has cost the Reds in the region of £1 million and the club will hope he can add some much needed goals, to a team who were among the lowest scorers in the league last season.

It represents a significant boost to Forest who have been unable to buy players for over a year following a transfer embargo and he is unlikely to be the last summer signing.

Talk will inevitably turn towards how the 24-year-old will fit into the team and who he might partner in attack, with a new style of play likely to be evident under French head coach Philippe Montanier, who arrived at the City Ground on Monday.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at potential striker partners for Vellios during the 2016/17 campaign.

Britt Assombalonga

The most obvious choice to partner Forest’s latest recruit is Britt Assombalonga, with the striker now fully fit following a serious knee problem.

The former Peterborough United striker missed the majority of last season with a knee ligament issue, although he returned in a bit-part role towards the end of the campaign.

Forest fans will be hopeful that their lethal talisman can replicate his form of the 2014/15 campaign, where he netted 15 goals in his maiden season at the City Ground before picking up the knee injury in February.

Assombalonga would thrive on Vellios winning aerial balls in and around the box and the duo could form a formidable partnership next season.

Nelson Oliveira

The Portuguese striker was on loan at the City Ground last season from Benfica and a series of fine performances have seen the Reds linked with the player yet again.

Oliveira has been placed on the transfer lift at the Portuguese giants and Forest could go for a lot worse strikers than the 24-year-old.

His nine goals last season was a pretty reasonable return for his first campaign in the Championship, although his performances were worthy of more goals.

He boasts 16 Portugal caps and would generally be a solid signing for any club in the Sky Bet Championship.

Patrick Bamford

The former Forest trainee will be looking to get his career back on track during the 2016/17 campaign, after a frustrating season on loan with Crystal Palace and Norwich City last time around.

Bamford would be a quality acquisition for Forest and would show a real statement of intent going into the next campaign, given that the young Chelsea star has a real eye for a goal particularly in the Championship.

He netted 17 goals for Middlesbrough as they were beaten in the Play-Off Final during the 2014/15 campaign, proving his worth as a Championship player in the process.

His affinity towards Nottingham Forest could put them in good shape should they make a move for the Chelsea man.

Nottingham Forest fans, which of these three should partner your new striker? Do you have someone else in mind to partner him next season?
