It was a disappointing Sky Bet Championship season for Fulham, finishing in 20th place with 51 points, but it could have been much worse.

The fact their goal-scoring record this season is top six standard highlights the flaws in their defence - Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers were the only teams in the division with worse records.

That will be the area that manager Slavisa Jokanovic, brought in after Christmas as a replacement for Kit Symons, will be looking to strengthen this summer after the club have emerged from a transfer embargo.

With some good players in the squad, it may well be looking up for the Cottagers next term, as they look to try and gain some momentum and eventually return to the Premier League for the first time since 2014.

Here, FootballLeagueWorld writer Ryan Evans outlines THREE Fulham players that deserve to be playing in the Premier League...

Ross McCormack

The league's second-highest scorer this term with 21 goals and nine assists to his name, McCormack was voted the Championship's second best player in the end-of-season awards.

The ability to have the goal-scoring lethality that the Scot has is hard to come by, and to find it in a side that finishes 20th is even rarer. This isn't the first time he's done it either, as he won the golden boot in the 2013-14 season whilst at Leeds United.

The 29-year-old has had plenty of interest from other sides too, with Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday putting in bids during the January transfer window. His transfer request in the latter part of that month was rejected, and the player later signed a contract extension.

However, Jokanovic's best move this summer may well be keeping McCormack in West London.

Moussa Dembele

The youngster burst onto the scene this year with an excellent campaign, scoring 15 goals and claiming six assists.

He may have been overshadowed by McCormack, but without each other it could be argued that neither striker would have had as much success.

He too has been linked with a move away, but Dembele's links are with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain.

The 19-year-old had eight years at PSG before moving to the Fulham youth setup in 2012, so it would not be at all surprising if he made a move to the French capital.

Tom Cairney

The 25-year-old signed from Blackburn Rovers in the summer, and has had a pretty decent debut campaign.

Following Jokanovic's arrival in late December, he wasn't quite sure where to use Cairney, before settling on the idea of playing him as a number ten.

Results followed in February, as he narrowly missed out on player of the month, but scored four goals and gained an assist to help move Fulham further from the drop zone.

He had a relatively poor end to the season, although that was ended by a man-of-the-match performance in the win over Bolton.

It's fair to say that Cairney is a player that Jokanovic can build a team around, and his ability to pick a pass could combine excellently with McCormack, should he stay and Jokanovic play the former Hull City man in the right position.
