Bristol Rovers have made an excellent start to the season and are in good form. They've won four of their last five matches and sit 4th in League One, two points away from the second automatic promotion spot.

Coming off of a 1-0 win over out of form MK Dons, they now face 11th placed Doncaster in a match that could see them rise to 2nd.

What changes could Coughlan make to help against Doncaster? We take a look...

Strike Partnership

Clarke-Harris is a fan favourite at the Memorial Stadium. Unsurprising considering his great scoring record for the Pirates. This year he has scored 7 of Bristol's 15 goals, with the rest of the goals very spread out among the side.

Coughlan is lucky to have four striker on his books. They're all fast and instinctive but other than Clarke-Harris, they haven't scored goals. Tyler Smith, Tom Nichols and Victor Adeboyejo have all been given a few starts and sub appearances each but Coughlan might not know who is the best to partner Clarke-Harris.

Unfortunately, Clarke-Harris is injured until November. Picking the right replacement is key. I think Adeboyejo is the closest to Clarke-Harris in terms of style. Smith and Nichols are quite similar so maybe wouldn't compliment each other very well, so would be best to pick on to partner Adeboyejo.

Support the strikers

Bristol Rovers have been using a 3-5-2 this season. So another potential tweak would to ensure support for the strikers who at times can be quite isolated on their own. Bristol send a lot of long balls forward but at times the strikers can not have enough support from the midfield and are forced to try and create something from scratch.

They also build down the wings quite well and overload those areas. But against MK Dons they looked unorganised and without set patterns of play. This lead to sloppy errors and miscommunication on the flanks at times where mistakes were avoidable and should have been converted into attacks.

Converting to a system with wingers who operate as inside forwards who can play narrowly and support the striker, making runs off of him as well as drift wide to create overloads. Kyle Bennett and Liam Sercombe are potentials for the winger slots.
