Sheffield Wednesday came within inches of gaining promotion to the Premier League last season and fans will hope that the heartbreak can spur them on to go one better this season.

After finishing in a play-0ff spot and dispatching Brighton over two legs in the play-off semi-finals, Sheffield Wednesday suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Hull at Wembley after Mo Diame's goal was enough to consign the Owls to another year in the second tier.

The club currently find themselves occupying 6th place, just inside the play-off places, 2 points clear of Derby County who sit in 7th place.

Lately, the Owls have found goals hard to come by and it appears as if January could be a pivotal month in their promotion push.

This article is going to take a look at two strikers that The Owls must attempt to seal a deal for before the end of the January transfer window...

Jordan Rhodes

Middlesbrough front man Jordan Rhodes is someone who The Owls have been rumoured to be chasing for a while now, and after Boro confirmed the arrival of Rudy Gestede earlier in the week, it appears now may be the perfect chance to prise Rhodes away from The Riverside.

The 26-year-old has been used sparingly so far this season and it appears he has struggled to adapt to Premier League football.

He is, however, a proven goalscorer at Championship level and actually netted a remarkable 83 league goals in 159 appearances for Blackburn Rovers throughout a 3-and-a-half season stay at Ewood Park.

Rhodes is a current Scotland international and will hope that a move back down to The Championship for regular first team football will increase his chances of impressing boss Gordon Strachan.

Rhodes has already been capped 13 times for the national side, scoring 3 times in the process.

A key factor in this move could be that Jordan's father Andy Rhodes is actually the current Goalkeeping coach at Sheffield Wednesday.

Leonardo Ulloa

Another striker that could look to escape the Premier League is Leicester City front man Leonardo Ulloa.

Ulloa played a key role in the club's remarkable title win last season, netting a very important 6 goals in 29 appearances but after the influx of talent through the doors of The King Power Stadium over the summer months, he now finds himself some way down the pecking order of strikers and has been mainly used as a substitute so far this season.

The former Brighton and Almeria man may be keen to escape the club in the hunt for regular first team football, something which he would be likely to get at Hillsborough.

The target man is a proven goalscorer and could be a very welcome addition to Carlos Carvalhal striking options.
