The Rams have seemingly turned their form around since the return of Steve McClaren in October after the departure of Nigel Pearson. Derby have been transformed from looming above the relegation zone to now knocking on the door of the play-offs, as they sit seventh and just two points outside the top six.

McClaren has worked a miracle at the iPro Stadium, or Pride Park, and fans will be full of hope as they look to challenge for promotion again. Although the strength of some of the teams in the Championship may mean Derby will have to improve their squad this month to equal rivals.

One position that should be looked at is the striker options. Whilst they may have a number of players who could fit in upfront, none are capable of leading the team to a play-off finish. In my opinion, Derby County need a more consistent goalscorer, after all, they've only scored 24 goals this season.

Jordan Rhodes

I am sure a lot of fans will be fed up of hearing this man's name but it is destiny that the Scotland international will depart Premier League outfit Middlesbrough this month after being frustrate for his lack of game time.

Jordan Rhodes is well equipped for the Championship, with it almost being his back yard. The 26 year-old scored 36 goals during the 2011/12 season to help Huddersfield gain promotion to the second-tier of English football before he moved to Blackburn Rovers for a fee believed to be around £8 million.

During the striker's three-and-a-half years at Ewood Park he hit the back of the net on 82 occasions in 159 appearances and that earned him a move to Riverside, eventually, after Blackburn had initially blocked the move.

Rhodes has played in 18 matches for Middlesbrough since signing in January 2016 and was a crucial player to help the club promotion to the Premier League, but this season has led to frustration with his game time being hard to come by.

Derby County would be the perfect destination, in my opinion, as they match his ambition of pushing for promotion and Steve McClaren should seal a deal for him before another team snatches his services.

Danny Ward

He may not have the most experience of the top-flight, in fact has just two appearances in the Premier League, but Danny Ward is certainly a striker that Derby County should sign within the next month.

The 26 year-old began his career at Bolton Wanderers but found game time at the Macron Stadium difficult to find, and after a couple of loan spells with Swindon Town and Coventry City, the striker joined Huddersfield for a £1 million fee in the summer of 2011.

Ward spent three-and-a-half years at the Yorkshire club, scoring just 16 times in 117 appearances, before his current team Rotherham United swooped in for his services in January 2015. This season, in what has been a disappointing one for the Millers, the forward has eight goals to his tally in 18 games.

Danny Ward is someone who has never been able to fulfil his potential but with the way McClaren plays at Derby means he'd get the best out of him and could score many in the promotion run-in this campaign.
