Plymouth Argyle’s 0-0 draw with Premier League giants Liverpool in the FA Cup third round ten days ago was one of the shock results, and tonight they are set to do battle once again at a packed-out Home Park.

The Pilgrims’ FA Cup heroics has sparked an extreme confidence boost as they emphatically saw off Stevenage at the weekend – in a 4-2 victory at Home Park.

They have lost just one out of their last nine games in all competitions – winning five that sees them just four points off League Two leaders Doncaster Rovers.

As we witnessed Lincoln City knocking out Championship side Ipswich Town last night, the magic of the cup is well underway and Plymouth will be confident of replicating the same result on the south coast of Devon.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams gives two reasons why Plymouth can shock Liverpool in the FA third round replay tonight…

Liverpool expected to field weakened side

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp fielded the youngest starting line-up in the club’s history against the Pilgrims.

The German boss obviously has a lot of faith in his Merseyside youngsters, but tonight’s clash with Plymouth will be a whole kettle of fish.

The Reds have some important games coming up as they look to entertain Chelsea in the league and Southampton in the second leg of the EFL Cup.

Klopp will not want to risk injury to his important first-team players.

The fortress of Home Park

Tonight’s game is set to be sell-out with the anticipated visit of Liverpool FC.

The Pilgrim supporters will aim to make The Reds’ evening far from comfortable as they look to continue their excellent form of late.

Home Park has become a fortress for Plymouth of late, who haven’t lost on their own turf since the 22nd November in a 2-0 defeat to Barnet, and picking up 10 league points out of possible 12.

The confidence is flowing in the squad and they will be optimistic about getting a spot against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the fourth round.
