With the new League One campaign set to kick-off in just under six-weeks' time, Oxford United boss Karl Robinson has already been very busy during the transfer window.

Having secured the services of Alex Rodriguez, Kevin Berkoe and Sam Allardyce in recent weeks, the 38-year-old could now be on the verge of making his fourth signing of the summer.

According to the South London Press, Oxford have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Tariqe Fosu from Charlton Athletic.

Although the winger's current deal at the Valley is set to run out at the end of June, the Yellows will have to pay a compensatory fee due to his age.

If this move does indeed go through, Fosu may end up having a profound impact on Oxford's fortunes next season.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros as well as two cons to the U's bringing in the 23-year-old based on his career to date.

Check them out below...

Pros

He has thrived under the guidance of Robinson before in League One

Having been signed by Robinson in 2017 during the manager's time in charge of Charlton, Fosu thrived during his debut season at the club as he scored nine goals and provided four assists for his team-mates.

Although the former Milton Keynes Dons boss did leave during the latter stages of that particular campaign to join Oxford, there is no doubting that his guidance allowed the winger to flourish and therefore a re-union this summer could be highly beneficial for both parties.

He has the potential to become a quality operator in the future

Despite Fosu already having over 100 league appearances to his name, it is fair to say that he is by no means the finished product yet.

Whereas at his very best he is virtually unstoppable at League One level, he still has a habit of drifting in and out of games which will need to be curbed if he is to hit the ground running for Oxford next season.

If Robinson can take him under his wing and eradicate Fosu's issues with consistency, the U's faithful could be treated with some real moments of magic over the coming years.

Cons

There is no guarantee that he will be an upgrade on their existing options

When you consider that Oxford already have the likes of James Henry and Gavin Whyte at their disposal, there is no guarantee that Fosu will be a regular starter for the club if he does indeed make the switch.

If he is forced to watch on from the sidelines next season, the former Reading may end up stagnating his development as it is clear that he needs to be playing regular first-team football in the third tier in order to nurture his talents.

He struggled considerably for form at Charlton last season

Although he was part of a Charlton side who achieved promotion to the Championship last month, Fosu's performances throughout the season left a lot to be desired as he only managed to score two goals in all competitions.

Given his lack of form, there is a real risk that he may not be able to produce the goods for Oxford during the upcoming campaign which would be disastrous for their hopes of building on what they have achieved in League One.
