Nottingham Forest are still searching for their next manager after sacking former boss Philippe Montanier two weeks ago, and Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom is the favourite to replace the Frenchman.

Current interim manager Gary Brazil is second favourite to become the full time manager at the club, and his chances will have been boosted after the Reds' 1-0 win over Bristol City at the weekend.

Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom had a good result himself at the weekend when his side beat Leeds United 3-2 at Oakwell to claim local bragging rights.

Since taking over from Lee Johnson, Heckingbottom has done an outstanding job as manager and is certainly labelled as one of the most talented young bosses in the game at the moment.

Forest need a manager who knows the league, can develop young players and play attractive football and Heckingbottom is capable of pulling the Reds up the league table.

Nonetheless, appointing a young manager with a different group of players is always a risk and whether it is a risk that owner and chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi chooses remains to be seen.

So, here are TWO pros and TWO cons to Forest appointing Paul Heckingbottom...

PRO - Attractive brand of football

Forest need a manager who can give them some identity and get them playing an attracting brand of passing, attacking football.

Paul Heckingbottom has already shown with Barnsley that he is capable of this, and if given the time he could implement a positive style of football at the City Ground.

Barnsley have looked one of the most dangerous sides going forward this season and this style of football would be welcomed at the City Ground.

CON - Not an experienced Championship boss

There is no denying that Heckingbottom is a very good manager at Championship level, but with the East Midlands club in such a poor league position, you could argue that they need an experienced head who has been there and done it in the Championship.

Heckingbottom has worked wonders with Barnsley this season, but whether he could handle a different squad low on confidence is unknown.

The Reds could be better off appointing someone like Gary Rowett, Nigel Pearson or Kenny Jackett to get them out of the bottom end of the table.

PRO - Getting the best out of players with a small budget

Considering the league position of Barnsley, a club with a small budget and what was believed to be an average squad at the start of the season, the work of Paul Heckingbottom is quite astonishing.

Since becoming Head Coach, Heckingbottom has got the best out of all of his players, a trait that a club like Forest need considering their poor league position at the moment.

With all of the off field debacles and problems such as transfer embargo's, Forest are not a club that can spend millions and millions of pounds on players, and they need a manager who can work under these restrictions.

Heckingbottom has experience of this at Barnsley.

CON - Only worked at a stable club

It would be a big coup if Forest were to attract Paul Heckingbottom to the club, but with all of the debacles behind the scenes at Forest, with the collapse of the proposed takeover and fans protesting for current owner and chairmen Fawaz Al Hasawi to leave the club, it doesn't make it an attractive proposition for anyone.

Heckingbottom knows Barnsley and has a good working relationship with the board and owner and if Fawaz Al Hasawi continues his embarrassingly bad running of Forest, then it would not the right move for the current Barnsley boss.

Forest are in turmoil at the moment and a young and hungry manager may not be the right club for a manager like Heckingbottom.
