Leeds United midfielder Toumani Diagouraga is set to depart the club with a move to Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United on the cards.

Since his arrival from Brentford last January, Diagouraga has failed to make an impact at Elland Road, slipping down the pecking order with the likes of Liam Bridcutt, Kalvin Phillips, Eunan O'Kane, Alex Mowatt and more ahead of him.

The holding midfielder was superb during his time at Griffin Park with the Bees and Leeds fans will be disappointed that the 29-year-old has lost some form over the last year.

Nonetheless, Diagouraga would still be a very impressive signing for Championship strugglers Rotherham United who would welcome a ball winning player in their midfielder.

The move makes sense for both parties involved but despite his poor form, Leeds will be losing a very talented player from their ranks.

So here are TWO pros and TWO cons to Leeds United offloading Toumani Diagouraga...

PRO - Frees up another squad place

Garry Monk already has a number of hugely talented midfielders in the squad, but by selling Diagouraga it frees up another space for the former Swansea City boss to sign another player with more quality.

With the talent ahead of Diagouraga in the midfield department it allows Monk to strengthen his midfield options further if he feels the need to.

Monk could have funds to spend in January and by selling Diagouraga it means he could bring in a player of his own to replace him.

CON - Diagouraga is still a talented player

He may not have hit the heights expected at Elland Road, but there is no denying that the holding midfielder has quality.

During his time at Brentford Diagouraga was comfortably one of the best holding midfielders in the Championship, and when Leeds signed him last year it was certainly labelled as a real coup by the Whites.

Due to a lack of game time, Diagouraga has struggled to find any form with Leeds but if he was given the opportunities he could have been a very good player for them.

PRO - Better players in that position

Under Garry Monk a number of players have made the holding midfielder position their own, with the likes of Liam Bridcutt and Kalvin Phillips all becoming key players for the Whites.

Diagouraga was a good player at Brentford, but for Leeds he hasn't displayed enough to merit a starting place in what is a competitive Leeds United midfield.

Selling Diagouraga trims the squad and decreases the competition for places in that position.

CON - An experienced head

He may be out of favour with boss Garry Monk but there is no denying that Diagouraga is an experienced head that could be useful when it comes to the business end of the season.

In what is a very youthful midfield, such as Kalvin Phillips and Alex Mowatt, an experienced figure could have been beneficial by the end of the season.

Instead, Diagouraga will use his experience in the huge task of trying to keep Rotherham United in the Championship.
