Having already secured the services of five new players this summer, Brentford manager Thomas Frank may be about to swoop for one of Liverpool's most exciting young prospects.

According to Goal, the Bees are reportedly interested in signing Herbie Kane on loan from the Reds with Charlton Athletic and Hull City also thought to be keeping tabs on the midfielder's current situation at Anfield.

If this is indeed true, it is imperative that Frank consider both the positives and the negatives that the 20-year-old could have on Brentford's fortunes next season before committing to a switch.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros as well as two cons to the Bees sealing a deal for Kane based on his career to date.

Check them out below...

Pros

He showed real signs of promise at Doncaster last season

Although Kane has still yet to make his first-team debut for Liverpool, he did manage to illustrate some real signs of promise during his year-long spell at Doncaster Rovers.

Part of a vibrant side which included the likes of John Marquis and Mallik Wilks, the midfielder scored four goals and provided seven assists for team-mates, helping the club reach the play-offs in May.

If he can replicate this kind of creativity for Brentford in the Championship during the upcoming campaign, he could turn out to be a fantastic addition to Frank's current roster of players.

He could thrive in Frank's system

With Frank preferring a 3-4-3 formation at Griffin Park, Kane could fit in seamlessly into this particular system by operating in one of the two central-midfield positions.

Given that he has previous experience of playing behind a front-three at Doncaster under the guidance of Grant McCann, the Liverpool ace will not be fazed by the prospect of having to do so again and thus may end up hitting the ground running for the Bees in August.

Cons

He is unproven at Championship level

Although there is no doubting Kane's wide array of skills, the fact that he has never played at Championship level before during his career could be a worry for Brentford.

Famed for its competitiveness, the second-tier can be a very unforgiving place for newcomers as a failure to adapt often leads to players being cut adrift by their clubs.

With the Bees looking to better the eleventh-place finish they achieved last season in 2020, they can ill-afford to be carrying any passengers and so they must be certain that Kane can deliver the goods before deciding to swoop for him.

He may not turn out to be an upgrade on the club's current options in midfield

Given that the Bees already have the likes of Romaine Sawyers, Mathias Jensen and Christian Norgaard at their disposal for the 2019/20 campaign, Kane may struggle to force his way into Frank's plans if he does join.

Whereas Jensen and Norgaard have been brought in for significant amounts of money from Celta Vigo and Fiorentina, Sawyers was an ever-present in the Championship last season, featuring in 42 games for Brentford.

With Liverpool not being able to offer Kane sufficient game-time at Anfield, the last thing they will want to see is him being forced to watch on from the sidelines after making a loan move this summer.
