Barnsley are in the market for a new manager after Daniel Stendel departed Oakwell earlier this week.

After Stendel took the Tykes to promotion last season he has struggled to adapt to life in the Championship and his tenure at the Yorkshire club has been cut short and Barnsley will be hoping for a swift appointment.

According to the Mirror's print edition (09/10, page 53), former Huddersfield Town manager Jan Siewert is one name in the frame to take over from his German compatriot Stendel.

Siewert who was axed by Huddersfield in August will be keen to get back into management and Barnsley could be the perfect fit for the German to get 'back in the saddle' as it were.

With Barnsley sitting 23rd in the table and on a bad run of form Stendel's sacking was inevitable despite being a likeable character at the club.

However, Siewert might be a shrewd appointment for the Tykes, here are TWO pros to Barnsley targeting him...

Pro: Has some experience in England and the Championship

Jan Siewert took over from David Wagner in the Premier League, despite not being able to keep Town in the top flight he did get a taste of Championship life.

Siewert only had a short spell in the Championship and has had time to reflect on the experience, he will have learnt a lot from his time at Huddersfield which could be a benefit if Barnsley were to make a move for him.

Pro: Fresh approach and similar German style of play

A change of manager can give the whole squad a huge boost, a fresh approach for Barnsley may be exactly what they need to turn things around and fight to stay in the Championship this season.

Siewert's style of play isn't too dissimilar to that of Stendel's, the German high press, high energy style is shared by both coaches and could make it easier for the players to adapt to the change in manager.

And, here are TWO cons...

Con: Already failed at Huddersfield Town

Jan Siewert was unsuccessful at Huddersfield, his appointment was a baptism of fire being thrown into the Premier League with an almost impossible task of keeping the club up.

Being given an opportunity to put things right in the Championship ultimately didn't work out either, Siewert failed to adapt to Championship football and despite a taste in the Football League he remains a fairly unproven manager and might not be exactly what Barnsley need at this moment.

Con: Joining under tough circumstances

A new manager joining a club in the relegation zone and in poor form is a difficult job to take - a bigger challenge than starting fresh in the summer before a ball has been kicked.

Whether Siewert has the ability to come in and make a difference early on is up in the air - with it currently being an international break it would be the perfect time for Siewert to come in if Barnsley were to appoint him.

However, failing to turn Huddersfield's fortunes around on two occasions would raise question marks over whether Barnsley would be the best fit for Siewert at this current time.
